Raquel Urtasun

Chief Scientist, ATG

Raquel Urtasun is the Head of Uber ATG Toronto and Chief Scientist at Uber ATG. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, a Canada Research Chair in Machine Learning and Computer Vision and a co-founder of the Vector Institute for AI. Prior to joining Uber, Raquel was an Assistant Professor at TTI Chicago. She received her Ph.D. degree from Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2006 and did her postdoc at MIT and UC Berkeley. She is a world leading expert in machine perception for self-driving cars. Her research interests include machine learning, computer vision, robotics and remote sensing.

What Uber Has Built in Toronto with Raquel Urtasun of Uber ATG

Drawn to the expertise and talent available in Toronto, Uber expanded its Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) to Canada. Led by Chief Scientist Raquel Urtasun, Uber has been testing its self-driving cars in the city, collecting data, and testing new approaches to its mapping technology. Returning to the Elevate stage, Urtasun will share the results of two years of work to make self-driving cars a reality.
