10 eCommerce Startups Selected for First Cohort of eCommerce North

By: Stephanie Porfiris, April 26 2021

We’re so excited to officially announce the 10 successful applicants to eCommerce North, Canada’s first ecommerce accelerator!

As you may remember from our announcement in February, eCommerce North is a brand new program from Elevate and Moneris, and it’s on a mission to help revolutionize the ecommerce space. We’re offering founders access to top entrepreneurs, executives and coaches, while moving the dial on critical social issues, improving diversity, equity, and inclusion across the entire entrepreneurial landscape.

“The goal is to build on the foundation that these startups have already nurtured. eCommerce North takes a holistic approach that will enable these founders to take their business to the next level.”

Bruce Nanton, Chief Operations Officer of Moneris

The interest we received from Canadian founders was truly astounding.

If you need a mood boost, we highly recommend interviewing a floodgate of passionate entrepreneurial change-makers — there is nothing more inspiring than sitting across the figurative table from such incredible people.

We left our conversations with candidates genuinely uplifted, despite the huge challenge that was at hand: choosing only 10 of the remarkable founders that we had the pleasure of speaking with for our first ever cohort.

Here’s a look at why a program like this is so needed in the current landscape.

“For Canada to be competitive in the digital economy, we need to make sure Canadian businesses of all sizes have access to the world of e-commerce and grow their Made in-Canada innovations in Canada and around the world. cCommerce North is leading the way to make this a reality and I couldn’t be happier to congratulate the brilliant, diverse entrepreneurs of this first cohort. Congratulations to you all and to Elevate and Moneris for your important leadership.”

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of
Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade

Before we reveal our successful founders, here are a few stats you might be into:

  • 50% are woman-identifying founders
  • 80% are from underrepresented groups
  • We have representation from Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec
